Our new apartment.

Here are some pictures of our first apartment. We love it so very much, tiny as it is!

This is the living room, the couch where we spend most of our time. We eat, sleep, read, watch movies, and catch up on each other's days together right here.

This is the other half of our living room - the wilder side! We love our handmade bookshelf that a good friend gave us for our wedding! And I, of course, am obsessed with my floral couch!

We like to call this The Office - it's basically just a desk where dump all our junk and organize our mail. But I think it's pretty cute! (Sorry for the blurry picture!)

Right now, this is my little sewing station. I have big plans for myself this winter involving a lot of fabric and also probably a lot of frustration at trying to learn a new skill. This trunk was my grandmothers, the antique wooden box was used at our wedding for our adoption fund, and the sewing machine is my mom's - there is a lot of generational representation in this photo.

I made the "I love you because..." sign last year for Valentine's day - we have fun writing each other messages. The map picture frame was a gift to him from me for an anniversary, the wine bottle is from Darjeeling, India, and the flowers are dried from our wedding! I love this little nook of the apartment, it sort of pulls all the other rooms together.

The bedroom is pretty simple. We haven't put much effort into it, but we like it because it's cozy!
Here is basically the entire apartment - yes, I can capture it all in one photo!

One of the features of our apartment that I both love and hate is this closet - our only closet! It is so teeny, we basically have no storage space. Sometimes this is really frustrating, but I also love it because it means we have NO junk in our apartment. When we moved in, we had to get rid of a lot of stuff because it simply didn't fit - it's AWESOME. We intentionally chose nearly everything that's in our home because it is either beautiful or practical, and I love that.

Pictures of the dining room & kitchen will have to come later because my kitchen is a mess & we are almost done with our new dining room table and I am excited to post pictures of it!

So there you have it - our first home together. If you live in the area (or if you don't!), come visit us! We would love to have you.

life after the wedding.

Things have been settling down in our cozy apartment. We are organized and the walls are decorated and it feels quite homey. Pictures will come soon, I promise. Kyle and I make such a good pair & we live together really well (which is actually a huge relief!). We are learning funny things about each other -  Kyle talks in his sleep, I can't stay up past 10 pm, there is disagreement about the "right" way to put the toilet paper on the holder, and we both hate clutter but leave our clothes in giant piles on the bedroom floor all week long.

We finally have a rhythm. It feels wonderful to finally be settled.

So what are we up to besides school and work these days?

While we were on our honeymoon, we made a list of goals for this fall - I think maybe we were just so used to having a million To-Do lists that we didn't know what to do without one! While we relax and enjoy married life, we want to be intentional and adventurous as well!

1. Finish sanding & staining our dining room table.
2. Get a fall CSA.
3. Take a trip to Columbus & hit the OH & IN highpoints.
4. Take a trip to the Smokey Mountains.
5. Go camping.
6. Visit & hike Devil's lake.
7. Learn how to make pesto, gluten free bread, and falafel. (Let's be real, this goal is for me. Kyle volunteered to help eat it all, though, so I guess that counts as his participation.)
8. Apply to the Peace Corps (!!!)
9. Go canoeing on the Milwaukee river.
10. Learn how to make a good cup of French pressed coffee.

It's a lot for just a few short months, but we are determined to do it! If you would like to join in on some adventures, you are more than welcome to :)

Life, lately.

Things have been pretty normal for us lately. No big events to speak of. I guess I'll give you the boring update... although it might be hard to think of anything to write about. Here's what we've been up to lately.

We got married!

It was the most beautiful day we could possibly have hoped for! It was so much fun to see everyone and celebrate together. All the stress of planning for the day was totally worth it! And now we are Mrs. & Mr. Korbines, at last!

We moved!

Into the cutest little apartment on the eastern edge of Riverwest. We've had so much fun decorating and organizing our first home together. I love the mint green walls, the garden plot in the back, and the location of it - we're tucked back in the woods with the trail to the river right behind us. But most of all, I love waking up next to Kyle in the morning and coming home to him in the evening. I love sitting on our couch in  our apartment and eating dinner at our  table together. I love being together and doing life together.

We went to Montreal!

In lieu of a trip to Europe, we decided on French Canada for our honeymoon. It was the perfect place for us. We had just the right amount of sleeping in a relaxing mixed with some adventure, eating at fun restaurants, and exploring the old cities of Montreal and Quebec. It was pretty fantastic!

We started new jobs!

All of a sudden, we are both teachers! Kyle is a Teaching Assistant at UWM and will be leading labs for a college engineering class. I am teaching art to K4-7th grade students at Crosstrainers Academy in Milwaukee. So far I love it. The photo above is a picture of a very calm moment in art class. Before I brought out the paint. I'll let you use your imagination as to what happened next :)

We are just living life. And we are loving it!

If you'd asked me 5 years ago if I wanted to go to Alaska, I would have said "No way." But here I sit, just back from our...
